RESUMO. Programas de estimulação cognitiva voltados para idosos institucionalizados mostram resultados positivos, contudo poucos estudos investigaram a eficácia de programas de estimulação da linguagem para a saúde dessa população. Objetivos: Caracterizar o perfil cognitivo-linguístico de idosos institucionalizados e comparar o desempenho antes e após um programa de estimulação de linguagem (PEL). Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo exploratório do tipo série de casos, com nove residentes de instituição de longa permanência para idosos (ILPI). Incluíram-se idosos com 60 anos ou mais, de ambos os sexos, sem doenças neurológicas ou neuropsiquiátricas, distúrbios da comunicação, deficiência intelectual, ou deficiência visual ou auditiva grave. Os participantes foram submetidos a uma avaliação inicial, com a Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCa) e a Bateria Montreal Toulouse de Avaliação da Linguagem – Brasil, para caracterizar o perfil linguístico-cognitivo do grupo estudado. Foram selecionados cinco idosos para participar do PEL, dentre os quais apenas dois participaram efetivamente do programa, porém todos foram reavaliados imediatamente após a finalização do programa. Resultados: Na avaliação inicial, dos nove participantes, apenas um participante apresentou desempenho cognitivo adequado, e todos apresentam alteração de aspectos macro e/ou microlinguísticos do discurso oral, com compreensão preservada. Na reavaliação realizada com cinco participantes, apenas os dois que aderiram efetivamente ao programa obtiveram melhoras no escores do MoCa. Em relação à linguagem, três participantes apresentaram melhor desempenho em emissão oral. O desempenho dos participantes em compreensão oral manteve-se ou declinou. Conclusão: A intervenção fonoaudiológica por meio de um PEL contribui para a melhora do desempenho cognitivo de idosos institucionalizados.

ABSTRACT. Cognitive stimulation programs for institutionalized elderly people show positive results, however few studies have investigated the effectiveness of language stimulation programs for the health of this population. Objectives: To characterize the cognitive-linguistic profile of institutionalized elderly and to compare their performance before and after a language stimulation program (LSP). Methods: An exploratory case series study was conducted with nine residents of a Home for the Aged. Elderly people aged 60 or over, of both sexes, without neurological or neuropsychiatric diseases, communication disorders, intellectual impairment or severe visual or hearing impairment were included. The participants were submitted to an initial assessment through the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Montreal Toulouse Battery Language Assessment – Brazil to characterize the cognitive-linguistic profile of the studied group. Five elderly were selected to participate in the LSP, of wich only two participated effectively in the program, but all were reassessed after the program was completed. Results: on the initial assessment, of the nine participants, only one had adequate cognitive performance and all presented changes in macro and/or microlinguistics aspects of oral discourse, with oral comprehension preserved. On the reassessment carried out with five participants, only two participants who adhered effectively to the program obtained improvements in MoCa scores. In regarding language, three participants performed better in the oral emission measures. The performance of the participants in oral comprehension remained or declined. Conclusion: The speech-language therapy intervention through a LSP contributes to improving the cognitive-linguistic performance of institutionalized elderly.

RESUMO Pessoas com demência apresentam alterações cognitivas, de linguagem e de comportamento. As alterações da linguagem podem ser identificadas no discurso desses pacientes já nas fases iniciais. Contudo, ainda há poucas pesquisas sobre a efetividade da terapia fonoaudiológica nesses casos. Os objetivos deste estudo foram descrever as manifestações linguísticas presentes no discurso de um paciente com distúrbio linguístico-cognitivo e analisar a efetividade da terapia fonoaudiólogica. Foi realizado um estudo de caso único longitudinal, com participante com demência mista em fase leve à moderada, submetida à avaliação pré e pós-terapia fonoaudiológica. Foram utilizados os subtestes de Compreensão oral e de Discurso narrativo oral da Bateria MTL-Brasil e o teste The Dog Story. Na avaliação, a paciente apresentou alteração grave da compreensão oral e alteração nas dimensões micro e macrolinguística do discurso, obtendo pontuação 2/10 no índice de avaliação do discurso oral. Após a terapia, a paciente obteve resultados dentro do esperado nos subtestes de Compreensão oral (palavras, frases e texto) e de Discurso narrativo oral (número de palavras e unidades de informação) da Bateria MTL-Brasil. No teste The Dog Story, a participante obteve melhor desempenho na produção do discurso em relação aos itens alteração lexical e complexidade sintática (dimensão microlinguística) e macroproposição (dimensão macrolinguística), alcançando escore de 5/10 no índice. É possível afirmar que a terapia fonoaudiológica foi efetiva a curto prazo para esta paciente com distúrbio linguístico-cognitivo e alterações no nível discursivo da linguagem.

ABSTRACT People with dementia present cognitive, language and behavioral impairments. The language deficits can be identified in the speech of these patients in the early stages. However, there are still few studies about the effectiveness of speech-language therapy in these cases. This study aimed to describe the language manifestations observed in the speech of a patient with a linguistic-cognitive disorder and to analyze the effectiveness of speech-language therapy. A longitudinal single-case study with a patient with mild to moderate mixed dementia was carried out. The patient underwent pre- and post-speech-language therapy evaluation with the Oral comprehension and the Narrative discourse subtests of the MTL-Brazil Battery and The Dog Story test. We observed severe impairments of the oral comprehension and deficits involving the micro and macrolinguistic dimensions of the discourse, with a score of 2/10 in the oral discourse evaluation index. After the speech-language therapy, the patient achieved adequate performance in the Oral Comprehension subtests (words, sentences and text) and the Oral Narrative discourse (number of words and information units) of the MTL-Brazil Battery. In The Dog Story test, the participant obtained better performance in the discourse production regarding the items lexical change and syntactic complexity (microlinguistic dimension) and macroproposition (macrolinguistic dimension), achieving a score of 5/10 on the index. It is possible to state that the speech-language therapy was effective in the short term for this patient with linguistic-cognitive disorder and impairments in the discursive level of the language.

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever as estratégias utilizadas durante o período da pandemia de COVID-19 para o retorno das atividades acadêmicas e assistenciais em saúde da Clínica Escola de Fonoaudiologia de uma universidade pública brasileira. Método Estudo descritivo, baseado em pesquisa documental. Para embasar as estratégias, foram utilizadas recomendações oficiais de instituições ou organizações nacionais ou internacionais no combate da COVID-19 publicadas entre os meses de março e junho de 2020. O plano estratégico proposto partiu da análise do serviço considerando as dimensões: infraestrutura, recursos materiais, recursos humanos e perfil dos usuários. Os resultados foram apresentados de forma descritiva. Resultados Foram planejadas ações referentes a adaptações na infraestrutura, cuidados com o ambiente, planejamento e implementação da nova rotina de atendimento e protocolo de biossegurança, fundamentadas nas recomendações sanitárias para enfrentamento da situação sanitária publicadas até o momento. O apoio técnico-científico de profissionais do campo da biossegurança foi fundamental na avaliação dos riscos locais e no estabelecimento de medidas de prevenção. Conclusão A descrição detalhada serve como instrumento norteador para o retorno das atividades com o máximo de segurança possível. Para que sejam eficazes, as estratégias de combate a infecções de qualquer natureza devem levar em consideração, no momento de sua formulação, as particularidades que cada ambiente de assistência à saúde possui. As novas rotinas devem contemplar a realidade socioeconômica local e permitir o cumprimento dos objetivos acadêmicos e sociais da Clínica Escola, mas devem ser revistas em períodos preestabelecidos pelos gestores ou de acordo com a evolução da situação sanitária local.

ABSTRACT Purpose Describe the preventive strategies used during the COVID-19 pandemic in the return of academic and health care activities in a Speech Therapy Teaching Clinic at a Brazilian public university. Methods This is a descriptive study based on documentary research. The strategies were based on official recommendations from national and international institutions and/or organizations to combat COVID-19 published between March and June 2020. The strategic plan included an analysis of the clinic’s infrastructure, material and human resources, and user profile. The results are presented descriptively. Results Actions based on the health recommendations to face the COVID-19 pandemic published until then considered adaptations to the infrastructure, care for the environment, and planning and implementation of a new health care routine and a biosafety protocol. The technical-scientific support provided by professionals in the field of biosafety was essential to assess local risks and establish preventive measures. Conclusion A detailed description of strategies is a guiding instrument for the return to activities in the safest manner. To be effective, strategies to combat infections of any nature should be formulated considering the particularities of each health care environment. The new routines should contemplate the local socioeconomic reality and fulfill the academic and social objectives of the Speech Therapy Teaching Clinic, but they should be revised by the management team periodically or as the local health situation evolves.

RESUMO Objetivos identificar e analisar a produção científica sobre as estratégias terapêuticas empregadas na reabilitação fonoaudiológica de pessoas com paralisia facial periférica (PFP). Estratégia de pesquisa foi realizada uma revisão integrativa, utilizando-se as bases de dados SciELO, PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect e Portal CAPES. Os descritores foram: paralisia facial e paralisia de Bell, combinados com reabilitação, terapia miofuncional e fonoaudiologia ou seus correlatos em inglês. Critérios de seleção estudos disponíveis na íntegra, que abordaram a reabilitação fonoaudiológica em pessoas com PFP, publicados no período entre 1999 e 2019, em português brasileiro, inglês ou espanhol. Resultados foram identificadas 650 publicações, mas apenas cinco artigos contemplaram os critérios de inclusão propostos. Dentre estes, a SciELO e PubMed obtiveram dois artigos incluídos cada. Além disso, a maioria foi publicada nos últimos dez anos e produzida no Brasil. O português brasileiro foi o idioma de publicação de três dos cinco artigos incluídos, não ocorrendo predominância de um nível de evidência específico. A descrição dos procedimentos utilizados não foi suficientemente detalhada nos estudos. Exercícios isotônicos e isométricos foram abordados mais frequentemente. A bandagem surgiu como recurso terapêutico em um estudo. Conclusão embora haja um grande número de artigos relacionadas à PFP, apenas cinco estudos descreveram procedimentos fonoaudiológicos para pessoas com PFP, com nível de evidência baixo. Portanto, novos estudos abordando o tema são necessários.

ABSTRACT Purpose identify and analyze the scientific production about the therapeutic strategies employed in the speech-language rehabilitation of people with peripheral facial paralysis. Research strategy an integrative review was performed using the SciELO, PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Portal CAPES databases. The descriptors were: facial paralysis and Bell's palsy, combined with rehabilitation, myofunctional therapy and Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences or their correlates in english. Selection criteria studies available in their entirety, which addressed speech-language rehabilitation in people with peripheral facial paralysis, published between 1999 and 2019, in Brazilian Portuguese, english or spanish, were selected. Results 650 publications were identified, but only five articles met the proposed inclusion criteria. Among these, SciELO and PubMed obtained two articles included each. In addition, most were published in the last ten years and produced in Brazil. Brazilian Portuguese was the language of publication of three of the five included, with no predominance of a specific level of evidence. The description of the procedures used was not sufficiently detailed in the studies. Isotonic and isometric exercises were approached more frequently. Bandage emerged as a therapeutic resource in one study. Conclusion Although there are a large number of articles related to peripheral facial paralysis, only five studies described speech-language procedures for people with peripheral facial paralysis, with low level of evidence. Therefore, further studies addressing the topic are needed.

RESUMO Com o crescimento da população idosa, evidencia-se um aumento da incidência de doenças comuns a essa faixa etária, como as demências. Esforços para aprimorar a qualidade dos cuidados em saúde a esses pacientes, incluindo os cuidados fonoaudiológicos, têm crescido. Este estudo objetiva avaliar a efetividade e a aplicabilidade do aplicativo Talk Around It como estratégia complementar na terapia fonoaudiológica em um caso de distúrbio cognitivo da comunicação. O participante foi avaliado pré e pós-terapia fonoaudiológica por meio de protocolos padronizados de avaliação da linguagem. A terapia teve como foco principal a redução de anomias. O aplicativo Talk Around It foi selecionado como recurso terapêutico complementar para alcançar esse objetivo. Na avaliação pós-terapia observou-se melhora ou manutenção dos escores dos subtestes da Bateria Montreal-Toulouse de Avaliação da Linguagem-Brasil: Nomeação oral (substantivos, verbos e total), Fluência verbal semântica e ortográfica e Discurso narrativo oral (unidade de informação e cenas). A avaliação funcional das habilidades comunicativas não se modificou de modo consistente após a intervenção O recurso tecnológico empregado com estratégias terapêuticas convencionais, durante três meses, conduziu a melhoras da habilidade de acesso lexical no caso estudado. Seu uso na prática clínica em pacientes com demência em fase leve mostrou-se possível.

ABSTRACT With the aging of the population, there is an increase in the incidence of common diseases to this age group, such as dementias. Efforts to improve the quality of health care for these patients, including speech-language therapy, have grown. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of the Talk Around It as a complementary strategy in the language therapy of a patient with cognitive communication disorder. The participant was evaluated before and after speech therapy through standardized language assessment protocols. The main focus of therapy was the reduction of anomies. The Talk Around It application has been selected as a complementary therapeutic resource to achieve this goal. In the post-therapy evaluation improvement or maintenance of the Montreal-Toulouse Battery for Language Assessment-Brazil Battery subtests scores was observed: Oral naming (nouns, verbs and total), Semantic and Orthographic verbal fluency and Oral narrative discourse (information unit and scenes). Functional assessment of communicative skills has not changed consistently after the intervention. The technological resource used with conventional therapeutic strategies, during three months, led to improvements in the lexical access ability in the case studied. It use in clinical practice in patients with mild dementia has proved possible.

RESUMO. Testes de fluência verbal são procedimentos amplamente utilizados na avaliação neuropsicológica. A análise da performance de pessoas com afasia no teste de fluência verbal fonêmica (FVF), do ponto de vista quantitativo e qualitativo, pode contribuir para uma melhor compreensão das mudanças cognitivas que ocorrem nesse grupo de pacientes. Objetivo: Os objetivos deste estudo foram analisar as medidas de estratégias de agrupamento e de mudança de agrupamento na FVF de pessoas com afasia e investigar a correlação entre o uso dessas estratégias, o desempenho quantitativo no teste e o desempenho em funções executivas. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 15 pessoas com afasia, destros, falantes nativos do português brasileiro, com idade entre 19 e 92 anos. Eles foram submetidos ao teste F-A-S e ao Teste do Relógio (TDR). Foram obtidas as seguintes medidas no F-A-S: escore total, número e tamanho médio de agrupamento e número de mudança de agrupamento. Para análise de correlação foi utilizado o teste de Spearman. Resultados: Foi verificada correlação positiva entre todos os escores do teste F-A-S, variando entre p=0,61 (p<0,001) e p=0,91 (p<0,001). Não foram encontradas correlações entre tais medidas e o escore no TDR (p≤0,31; p≥0,260). Conclusões: A análise quantitativa e qualitativa do F-A-S de pessoas com afasia, mesmo com diferentes manifestações linguísticas, mostrou que elas apresentam escores inferiores e o número total de palavras e o número de mudanças de agrupamento possuem forte correlação. Não foi observada correlação entre funções executivas, avaliada pelo TDR, e o desempenho na medida de mudança de agrupamento.

ABSTRACT. Verbal fluency tests are widely used in neuropsychological assessment. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the performance of aphasic individuals on the phonemic verbal fluency (PVF) test can contribute to a better understanding of cognitive changes in this group of patients. Objective: This study aimed to analyze clustering and switching measures of PVF in people with aphasia and investigate the relationship between the use of these strategies, the quantitative performance on the test, and the performance on executive functions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 15 people with aphasia, right-handed, native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese, aged 19 to 92 years. They were submitted to the F-A-S test and the Clock Drawing Test (CDT). The following measures were obtained in the F-A-S test: total score, number of clusters, mean cluster size, and number of switches. Spearman's test was used to analyze correlation. Results: We found a positive correlation among all F-A-S test scores, ranging from p=0.61 (p<0.001) to p=0.91 (p<0.001). No correlation was identified between these measures and CDT performance (p≤0.31; p≥0.260). Conclusions: The quantitative and qualitative analysis of F-A-S in people with aphasia, even those with different linguistic manifestations, showed that these individuals presented lower scores and that the number of total words and the number of switches were strongly correlated. We found no correlation between executive function, assessed by the CDT, and switching performance on the F-A-S test.

RESUMO. A síndrome do sotaque estrangeiro (SSE) é um distúrbio extremamente raro, com 112 casos descritos até 2019. Foram comparados dois casos de SSE em falantes nativos do português brasileiro em sua forma clássica e em sua variante psiquiátrica. Os seguintes casos foram analisados: (1) homem de 69 anos, destro, com história prévia de acidente vascular cerebral, e (2) mulher de 43 anos, destra, com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia. Eles foram avaliados quanto à linguagem e à fala, incluindo a inteligibilidade. Ambos apresentaram alterações de fala, como um sotaque novo adquirido, sem exposição prévia à língua estrangeira. Entretanto, o início do distúrbio foi súbito no caso 1 e insidioso e com eventos transitórios no caso 2, com escores de inteligibilidade da fala de 95,5 e 55,3%, respectivamente. Além do comprometimento neurológico, a apresentação clínica da variante psiquiátrica foi mais grave e diferiu dos casos de SSE, cuja inteligibilidade da fala é preservada.

ABSTRACT. Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is an extremely rare disorder, with 112 cases described until 2019. We compare two cases of the foreign accent syndrome in native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese in its classic form (FAS) and psychiatric variant (FALS). Two cases were analyzed: (1) a right-handed, 69-year-old man, with a prior history of stroke, and (2) a right-handed, 43-year-old woman, diagnosed with schizophrenia. They were evaluate for language and speech, including the speech intelligibility. Both patients had speech impairments complaints, similar to a new accent, without previous exposure to a foreign language. However, the onset of the speech disorder was sudden in case 1 and insidious and with transient events in case 2, with speech intelligibility scores of 95.5 and 55.3% respectively. Besides neurologic impairment, the clinical presentation of FALS was extremely severe and differed to that expected in FAS cases, in which speech intelligibility is preserved.

RESUMO Objetivo Identificar a frequência de afasia em usuários internados em um hospital público municipal de referência e caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico e clínico da amostra estudada. Métodos Foi realizado um estudo transversal, descritivo, baseado em análise de prontuários e avaliação fonoaudiológica breve, à beira do leito. Foram incluídos no estudo adultos ou idosos, de ambos os sexos, falantes nativos do português brasileiro, com AVC, em fase aguda ou subaguda. Resultados Em três meses, 13 usuários se enquadraram nos critérios de inclusão, nove consentiram em participar e sete foram avaliados. Dentre os participantes avaliados, três apresentaram quadro afásico, com proporção de 42,8% de casos. Quanto ao perfil, a maioria dos nove participantes era de mulheres, idosas e com escolaridade média. No subgrupo com diagnóstico inicial de afasia, os três usuários apresentaram quadros afásicos de grau moderado à grave, decorrente de lesões córtico-subcorticais. Conclusão Considerando a proporção de casos de afasia encontrados em usuários internados em fase aguda e subaguda do primeiro AVC e as características desse grupo, é indispensável a atenção à saúde dessa população, bem como o mapeamento de casos em outras regiões do estado e do país.

ABSTRACT Purpose To identify the rate of aphasia in users admitted to a public referral hospital and to characterize the sociodemographic and clinical profile of the sample studied. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out based on analysis of medical records and a brief bedside speech-language assessment. The study included younger or older adults, of both sexes, native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese, with stroke in the acute or subacute phase. Results In a 3-month period, 13 users met the inclusion criteria, of whom 9 agreed to participate and 7 were evaluated. Three participants had aphasia, representing 42.8% of cases. Regarding the profile of the 9 participants, the majority were women, elderly and had medium educational level. The three users in the subgroup with initial diagnosis of aphasia had moderate-to-severe aphasia secondary to cortical-subcortical lesions. Conclusion Given the rate of aphasia cases found among users hospitalized for primary acute and subacute strokes and the characteristics of this group, efforts toward providing health care for this population and mapping cases in other regions of the state and country are fundamental.

RESUMO Diante da percepção do impacto na comunicação e na qualidade de vida ocasionado por um quadro de afasia, compreende-se a relevância da adesão ao tratamento fonoaudiológico. Porém, há casos em que a procura por tal tratamento não ocorre, por motivos que ainda não foram investigados de modo aprofundado. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a adesão ao tratamento fonoaudiológico de pessoas com afasia, encaminhadas após alta hospitalar. Foi realizado um estudo qualitativo de dois casos. Participaram deste estudo duas idosas com afasia após acidente vascular cerebral (AVC), acompanhadas em um hospital municipal de referência microrregional. Foi realizada a coleta de dados sociodemográficos e clínicos em prontuário e por meio de entrevista com um familiar de cada participante, durante a internação. Após dois meses, aproximadamente, foi realizada nova entrevista para investigar a procura por atendimento fonoaudiológico. A instalação de sequelas físicas pós-AVC, que afetam membro inferior, sua gravidade e a fase de recuperação contribuem para a não adesão ao tratamento fonoaudiológico público em nível ambulatorial, por pessoas com afasia. A interação entre fatores sociodemográficos, aspectos clínicos e características da rede pública de saúde (como a inexistência de fonoaudiólogo no serviço de atenção domiciliar) pode influenciar a procura por tratamento domiciliar particular nesses casos. É possível afirmar que múltiplos fatores, clínicos e sociodemográficos, influenciam a não procura por tratamento fonoaudiológico por essa população. Além disso, tais fatores indicam a existência de dificuldades no acesso a serviços de saúde públicos, por limitações na rede de atenção à saúde regional.

ABSTRACT Given the perceived impact on communication and quality of life of aphasia, the importance of adherence to speech therapy treatment is clear. However, there are cases in which this treatment is not sought, for reasons that have not been fully investigated. The aim of this study was to analyze adherence to speech therapy by people with aphasia referred after hospital discharge. A qualitative case study of two cases was carried out. Two elderly women with aphasia after stroke treated at a micro-regional public referral hospital participated in this study. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected from patient medical records and drawn from an interview with a family member during hospitalization. After about two months, a second interview was conducted to investigate whether speech therapy had been sought. The presence of post-stroke physical sequelae affecting lower limbs, its severity, and the post-stroke recovery phase were all factors contributing to non-adherence to public outpatient speech-therapy treatment by these individuals with aphasia. The interaction between sociodemographic factors, clinical aspects and characteristics of the public health network (such as non-availability of speech therapists in the home-care service) can influence the seeking of private home-based treatment in these cases. Results revealed that multiple clinical and sociodemographic factors influence nonadherence to speech therapy in this population. In addition, these factors indicate difficulties accessing public health services as a result of shortcomings in the regional health care network.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Pneumo-phono-articulatory coordination is often impaired in dysarthric patients. Because all speech is produced upon exhalation, adequate respiratory support and coordination are essential for communication. Nevertheless, studies investigating respiratory parameters for speech are scarce. The objectives of the present study were to analyze and compare the numbers of words and syllables (universal measurement) per exhalation among healthy and dysarthric speakers, in different speech tasks. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional analytical study with a control group was conducted at the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at UNIFESP. METHODS: The study sample consisted of 62 individuals: 31 dysarthric patients and 31 healthy individuals matched for sex, age and education level. All participants performed number counting and text reading tests in which the numbers of words and syllables per exhalation were recorded. All measurements obtained from the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences between the dysarthric and healthy groups were found in the two tasks (counting of syllables and words per exhalation) (P < 0.001). In contrast, the performance of the dysarthric patients did not vary according to the task: reading and number counting in syllables/exhalation (P = 0.821) or words/exhalation (P = 0.785). CONCLUSIONS: The mean numbers of words and syllables per exhalation among dysarthric subjects did not vary according to the speech task used but they clearly showed differences between dysarthric patients and normal healthy subjects. The study also made it possible to obtain preliminary data on the average numbers of words and syllables per expiration produced by healthy individuals during their speech production.

RESUMO O Teste do Desenho do Relógio (TDR) é um instrumento importante para rastrear indivíduos com suspeita de alterações cognitivas. Objetivo: Verificar a influência da variável sociodemográfica escolaridade no desempenho de adultos saudáveis no TDR. Métodos: Foram analisados os desenhos de 121 adultos saudáveis sem queixas e/ou alterações neurológicas, distribuídos em 4 subgrupos, a partir de quatro níveis de escolaridade: 27 adultos analfabetos, 34 adultos com 1-4 anos de estudo formal, 30 adultos com 5-11 anos de estudo formal, 30 adultos com >11 anos de estudo formal. Os desenhos obtidos foram analisados segundo os critérios propostos por Sunderland et all (1989),¹ com uma escala que variou de 1 a 10 pontos. A comparação dos grupos segundo a escolaridade foi feita utilizando-se o teste de Kruskal-Wallis seguido do teste de comparações múltiplas de Tukey para verificar onde as diferenças se deram. Resultados: Apesar dos escores terem aumentado conforme a escolaridade, foram observadas diferenças estatisticamente significantes apenas entre analfabetos e os demais grupos no TDR. Conclusão: O desempenho dos indivíduos melhorou de acordo com a escolaridade, porém o TDR não sofreu forte influência da escolaridade em sua aplicação, exceto para indivíduos analfabetos, que apresentaram escores diminuídos. Deste modo, acredita-se que o teste pode ser utilizado na avaliação da praxia visuo-construtiva em indivíduos independentemente dos anos de escolarização.

ABSTRACT The Clock Drawing Test (CDT) is an important instrument for screening individuals suspected of having cognitive impairment. Objective: To determine the influence of education on the performance of healthy adults on the CDT. Methods: A total of 121 drawings by healthy adults without neurological complaints or impairments were analysed. Participants were stratified by educational level into 4 subgroups: 27 illiterate adults, 34 individuals with 1-4 years of formal education, 30 with 5-11 years, and 30 adults with >11 years' formal education. Scores on the CDT were analyzed based on a scale of 1-10 points according to the criteria of Sunderland et al. (1989).¹ The Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to compare the different education groups. Tukey's multiple comparisons test was used when a significant factor was found. Results: Although scores were higher with greater education, statistically significant differences on the CDT were found only between the illiterate and other educated groups. Conclusion: The CDT proved especially difficult for illiterate individuals, who had lower scores. These results suggest that this screening test is suitable for assessing mainly visuoconstructional praxis and providing an overall impression of cognitive function among individuals, independently of years of education.

RESUMO Objetivo: Obter parâmetros de normalidade na tarefa de fluência verbal fonêmica, versão F-A-S, em uma população de alto letramento de adultos falantes do português brasileiro. Métodos: A amostra foi constituída por 40 voluntários, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 19 e 59 anos, e com mais de 8 anos de estudo. Todos os voluntários foram inicialmente submetidos ao Miniexame do Estado Mental e ao Teste do Desenho do Relógio, para fins de rastreio cognitivo, e, então, ao Teste de Fluência Verbal Fonêmica F-A-S. Neste último, os indivíduos foram orientados a produzirem o maior número de palavras que conseguissem, iniciadas com cada uma das três letras ditas pelo examinador, em um intervalo de 60 segundos cada. Resultados: As médias das palavras produzidas com as letras F-A-S foram as seguintes: “F” = 15,3 palavras por minuto; “A” = 14,4 palavras por minuto; e “S” = 13,9 palavras por minuto. A média do total de palavras emitidas iniciada com todas as letras do teste foi de 43,5 palavras. Conclusão: Foram obtidos valores de referência para o Teste de Fluência Verbal Fonêmica F-A-S para indivíduos adultos jovens de alto grau de letramento semelhantes aos de estudos internacionais. Tais valores podem ser utilizados na avaliação clínica de transtornos da linguagem e na avaliação neuropsicológica.

ABSTRACT Objective: To establish normative parameters for the F-A-S form of the phonemic verbal fluency test, in a population of Brazilian Portuguese speaking adults with high-level literacy. Methods: The sample comprised 40 male and female volunteers aged 19 to 59 years, and at least 8 years of formal education. Volunteers were first submitted to the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Clock Drawing cognitive screening tests, then to the F-A-S Verbal Phonemic Fluency Test; in this test, examinees were given 60 seconds to generate as many words as possible beginning with each of the three test letters. Results: The means for number of words beginning the letters F, A and S and for total number of words beginning with either letter generated per minute corresponded to 15.3, 14.4, 13.9 and 43.5, respectively. Conclusion: Reference values obtained from young adults with high levels of literacy submitted to the F-A-S Verbal Phonemic Fluency Test in this study were similar to those reported in the international literature. These reference values can be used for clinical assessment of language disorder and neuropsychological evaluation.

Entre os profissionais da saúde, os fonoaudiólogos também são convidados a refletir sobre o assunto. Visando identificar pontos importantes para essas reflexões, o objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar o perfil de formação e de práticas em saúde dos fonoaudiólogos graduados pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro inseridos em serviços públicos de saúde. Foi realizado um estudo transversal descritivo, com dez sujeitos, entrevistados a partir de um roteiro semiestruturado. Os dados transcritos foram analisados segundo o conteúdo explícito e a frequência das respostas. Os resultados obtidos revelaram que a maioria dos profissionais entrevistados tinha experiência extracurricular na rede pública de saúde, considerou os estágios como uma das experiências mais importantes da graduação, frequentou cursos de especialização e possuía duplo vínculo público. Além disso, o atendimento clínico-terapêutico individual destacou-se como a principal atividade realizada nos serviços de saúde pelos profissionais. Apesar do caráter preliminar, o estudo identificou pontos importantes para a discussão da formação e das práticas desses profissionais da saúde.

Among health professionals, speech and language pathologists are also invited to reflect on these questions. The aim of this study was to investigate some aspects of the undergraduate education and health care practices of speech and language pathologists (graduates of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) working in public health units. A descriptive cross study was carried out with ten subjects who responded to a questionnaire and were interviewed. The transcribed data were analyzed based on their content and the frequency of the answers. The results showed that most of the interviewed professionals considered the traineeships as one of the most important experiences of the undergraduate course, had extracurricular experience in public health services, attended specialization courses, and worked in more than one public health unit. Also, the study found that individual therapy was the main activity carried out in the public health services by the professionals. The study identified relevant points to be discussed about undergraduate education and public health care practices for these health professionals.
